Esa Äärynen appointed Head of Business Development at Helen Electricity Network

Esa Äärynen has been appointed Head of the Business Development unit at Helen Electricity Network as of 1 April. He will move into the role from his current position as Head of the Customer unit and will continue as a member of the company’s Management Team.

Esa Äärynen has extensive and versatile experience in electricity network development, strategic planning and advancing customer-oriented solutions. He has worked at Helen Electricity Network since 2021, first as Head of Strategic Network Planning and most recently as Head of the Customer unit. Prior to joining Helen, he worked in strategic grid planning at Fingrid and held several expert roles at Caruna. Äärynen holds a Master of Science in Engineering and a Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration.

“Esa has a strong track record in both long-term electricity network development and customer-driven operating models. He has an excellent understanding of the specific characteristics of Helsinki’s network and of the transformation of the entire sector,” says CEO Markus Lehtonen.

The Business Development unit is responsible for Helen Electricity Network’s strategic development initiatives, business planning and steering long-term network planning. The unit’s work supports the growth of Helsinki and the needs of an increasingly electrified society.
