Share your views on the development of Helsinki’s electricity distribution network – customer consultation open throughout May
We have published Helen Electricity Network’s Electricity Distribution Network Development Plan 2026. Throughout May, customers can familiarise themselves with the plan and share their views on the development of Helsinki’s electricity distribution network by responding to a survey. The development plan will be updated in June based on the feedback received.
We publish an Electricity Distribution Network Development Plan every two years. The plan describes how we develop Helsinki’s electricity distribution network to meet future needs. The Development Plan 2026 is now open for customer comments throughout May.
Customer consultation was introduced as part of our development work in 2022, and since then, customers’ views have been a central element in the development of the electricity distribution network. In this year’s survey, customers can comment, among other things, on how the network should enable the clean transition.
“We will invest over EUR 500 million in Helsinki’s electricity distribution network over the next ten years to enable the clean transition, respond to increasing electrification and ensure that the reliability of supply remains at a high level also in the future. We want to engage in open dialogue on network development and hear our customers’ views already at the planning stage,” says Aki Hämäläinen, Head of Network Planning at Helen Electricity Network.
The development plan describes changes in the operating environment of the electricity distribution network, the principles guiding network development, and a long-term plan for the next ten years. In addition, it presents current and upcoming projects as well as key measures implemented in recent years.
The development of the electricity distribution network is particularly influenced by the clean transition in the energy sector, the growth and development of the city, the specific characteristics of the urban environment, and the large number of customers critical to the functioning of society. Significant growth in electricity consumption and increasing electrification require strengthening the network and continuously developing reliability of supply.
