Energy Community Allocation Service

A housing company can establish an Energy Community together with its residents. Through the Energy Community, residents can utilise the electricity generated by the building’s own solar panels. The solar electricity produced reduces residents’ electricity bills in terms of network service charges, energy charges and taxes. The establishment of an Energy Community and the allocation service are free of charge for both the housing company and its residents.

Frequently asked questions about energy communities

Making full use of your solar panels

Previously, housing companies could only use the solar electricity they generated in shared building facilities. The Energy Community and allocation service change this. With the allocation service, solar electricity generation is distributed among members according to agreed allocation shares.

Solar electricity is first used for the building’s shared consumption, such as stairway lighting, mechanical ventilation, shared sauna and other common uses. On sunny days, there is also electricity available for apartments. Residents benefit from savings on network service charges, energy charges and electricity tax for the electricity they use.

Residents can monitor their billed electricity consumption and the amount of allocated benefit in the Oma Sähköverkko service. Thanks to the allocation service, it is often beneficial to size the solar panel system larger than the building’s own consumption, so that electricity is also available for residents.

How to join the Energy Community allocation service

The housing company has decided to acquire solar panels and has submitted a small-scale generation notification to Helen Electricity Network.

In addition, the housing company has familiarised itself with the service description and terms of Energy Communities and selected the energy allocation method.

A representative of the housing company submits the Energy Community order and signs the agreement via our online service.

We review the order and send an allocation table to the housing company representative for completion. The table defines how solar electricity production is distributed among the members of the Energy Community.

The person placing the order receives a contract confirmation and information on the start date of the Energy Community.

Enjoy the electricity generated by your own solar panels! You can monitor the benefits received from the Energy Community in the Oma Sähköverkko service.
