Renovations modernisations and changes in heating method
Building systems in your company’s property are periodically upgraded through major improvements, such as renewing the heating system. As a result of these upgrades, the company’s electricity consumption may increase and you may need a larger electricity connection – in practice, larger main fuses.
How does the process proceed?
Discuss your electricity demand in detail with your electrical designer and determine together the appropriate connection size that will serve your company’s needs both now and in the future.
The connection size should not be increased without careful consideration. In the Helsinki region, it is very common that existing electricity connections are only partially utilised. This means that your electrical system may already have significant unused capacity. Check the realised electricity consumption and the connection size in the Oma Sähköverkko digital service. The service also shows the available capacity.
Order the connection modification work together with your electrical contractor well in advance, as large power requirements typically require some construction work in the electricity distribution network. Work carried out within your property area is entirely your responsibility. On public street areas, the electricity network is built by Helen Electricity Network.
Your electrical contractor is responsible for other required notifications to the distribution system operator. They will submit the electrical plans and order the necessary installation work from the network company.

…that if there are other electricity users in the property (for example residents of a housing company or tenants in a commercial building), they will handle their own electricity supply contracts during the renovation. For example, if apartments cannot be occupied during the renovation, it may be reasonable to terminate the electricity contracts of all apartments for the duration of the renovation. When the renovation is completed, residents can sign new contracts.
